January Employee Spotlight - Jacci Cotton

Posted By: Marsha Bills

JOB IN NIGHT MAG COURT WAS JUST WHAT JACCI COTTON NEEDED IN HER LIFE.

As a parent of two children, Jacci Cotton was looking for a job that would allow her to work at night so she could be with her daughter and son during the day. She had worked in data entry for five years at Methodist Hospital when she decided to make a life-changing move.

Here new job as a clerk in the Magistrate Court worked so well, she has spent the last 18 years in that position with deeply satisfying results. “My night shift enabled me to support my kids, while going on field trips with them during the day and meeting them for lunch at school,” says Jacci. “And the work was something I left at the court. I didn’t take it home with me, so I could focus on my children.”

Jacci, who now works the early morning shift, believes that her daily involvement with her children and their education made a profound difference. Her children’s remarkable achievements are evidence that her sacrifice and hard work paid off for her and her children.

Daughter Camille, 28, is a graduate of UTA and a computer engineer with the Texas Council of Governments. Son Christopher, 23, just graduated from UNT and has been accepted as a graduate student in the area of pharmaceutical studies. Having studied in Mexico, he is fully bi-lingual and looks forward to building a solid career while helping others.

Jacci is grateful that she was able to show her children that hard work and determination are the foundation of success. She now has a new legacy to that tradition, grandson Connor, born six months ago to Camille.
