First Criminal Case Imaged

Posted By: Marsha Bills

On Friday, June 11, 2009, the Criminal Digital Courts Project successfully imaged and indexed its first complete Criminal Case File. The test file, F-08-39402, was successfully scanned, indexed, and committed into Onbase and can now be viewed in the Electronic Document Management System as an electronic case file.

The initial test was conducted in the second floor imaging room where Chris Brown, pictured, works. The test demonstrated the electronic retrieval of all documents scanned within the case file and retrieval of documents contained within an “Electronic Minute Book.” The next phase will be activating the scanner located within the 283rd clerks’ office.

While the system requires a few minor modifications, such as inclusion of more document types, the test shows that Onbase can capture paper documents and make electronic images available to authorized viewers connected to the County computer network.

Over the next several days, the Criminal Digital Courts Project will continue imaging tests on case files contained in the 283rd Criminal District Court and determine the most expeditious method of capturing all files contained within this Court.
