PASSPORTS OFFICE CONTINUES OUTREACH TO SERVE SPECIAL NEEDS OF COMMUNITY

Posted By: Marsha Bills

On February 11, 2009, the Passports section of the District Clerk’s office held a unique processing event for deaf applicants who needed the help of signing specialists to communicate with Passports staff.

Responding to a request from Dallas’ Deaf Action Center, Passports clerks Chris Garza of the North Dallas Government Center and Oscar Tovar from East Dallas Government Center, shown in the photo, helped a group of seniors with hearing and speech difficulties prepare for a trip to the Bahamas.

Says Passports Supervisor Mike Lindley, “Although we only processed 15 applications, the time was well spent in terms of providing a community service to those who need it.”

Over the past ten years, the Passports section has also gone to the Christ for the Nations Seminary to prepare students for missionary trips, to First Baptist Church prior to its youth choir’s tour of Europe, and the Potter’s House before its choir’s trip to Africa.
