Nationally Acclaimed Motivational Speaker Addresses
Juvenile Center Youth, Meets Clerks in Office

On February 27, 2009, the Dallas County Juvenile Department hosted its 16th Annual Black History Celebration that included the participation of Roland Martin, a nationally syndicated columnist and motivational speaker. During the event, which carried this year’s theme "Yes We Can, Service with a Change," the prestigious Lyle B. Medlock Scholarship was presented.
Mr. Martin, a commentator for TV One Cable Network, is also host of the Roland S. Martin Show on WVON-AM/1690 in Chicago. A CNN contributor who appears on a variety of shows including Anderson Cooper 360, Mr. Martin can be heard daily on the Tom Joyner Morning Show. A noted activist, he has won national acclaim as a journalist and motivational speaker.
After the program, Mr. Martin went to the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center where he spoke to youths in the Detention Center, then toured the building interacting with the staff of the Juvenile Department and the District Clerk's Office.
