Posted By: Marsha Bills

ACCOUNTING CLERK PATTY ARREGUIN BALANCES WORK,
SCHOOL AND FAMILY WITH GREAT PASSION FOR EACH

Since joining the District Clerk’s office in 2008 as accounting clerk, Patty Arreguin has learned procedures unique to the County government’s financial process. She brought with her skills learned while working at Citibank where she worked as a credit card collector then as a teller.

Among her many current daily responsibilities is the preparation of the department's deposit and verification that all the checks meet processing policy guidelines. She also reviews tax court suits, prepares disbursement worksheets to pay vendors or issue refunds, and completes any special projects to which she is assigned.

“I enjoy working on tax cases because each one is different,” says Patty. “I must pay close attention to every detail and double-check all disbursements I make. It is also satisfying to know that my work reduces the number of returned checks by reviewing all checks submitted for deposit, ensuring each detail is correct.”

In addition to performing her job duties at the highest level of professionalism, she is obtaining her Bachelor in Science Degree in Accounting and Information Management in the summer of 2010 from the University of Texas at Dallas.

The second of five children, she will be the first member of her family to acquire a college degree, which she believes is an essential foundation for the development of her career she hopes to pursue specializing in auditing. Eventually, she hopes to obtain a master's degree as well.

Patty loves her job, enjoys her colleagues, and is glad to be achieving her dream of an education. But her husband and daughter are the special joys in her busy life. “Having them makes all the hard work, long hours and temporary sacrifices worthwhile,” Patty says.
