District Clerk Rolling Out Paperless Processing of All E-Filed Civil Court Documents

Posted By: Marsha Bills

If you notice this colorful sign posted around the courthouse, you will see how the District Clerk’s office is promoting the implementation of paperless electronic processing of all e-filed documents in all Dallas County Civil District Courts, which will now be able to accept e-filed documents, from original petition through the complete judicial process.

This is a huge milestone for the District Clerk’s Digital Courts Project. “E-filing has been a cornerstone of my administration,” says District Clerk Gary Fitzsimmons. “We have committed significant human and monetary resources over the last two years to make this goal a reality that will dramatically improve the efficiency of our courts and our clerks’ ability to serve customers.”

Attorneys and other filers will be able now to e-file from any computer at any time using their chosen provider of TexasOnline E-filing services. As many attorneys who have already been using E-filing have reported, the average turn-around time of 24 hours is an enormous improvement over the old conventional process of driving to the courthouse with paper documents, consuming gas, finding parking, transporting documents to the courthouse, standing in line and having to repeat the process for motions and on other occasions that might arise during the completion of a case.

Now, attorneys can quickly and efficiently file documents and manage all other case documents on-line, along with court clerks and members of the judiciary who will also have immediate access to court documents on their computers. “This ability to dove-tail e-filing and digitize court records is a win-win combination for courts, clerks and the legal community,” concludes Mr. Fitzsimmons.
