ACCOUNTING SUPERVISOR RHONDA FORD
SHOWED AN INTEREST EARLY IN FINANCE
Native Californian Rhonda Ford took her first accounting class as a high school senior in Long Beach, California. But she had been reading the financial section of the newspaper, especially information about the stock market, since she was eight years old. Encouraged by her father to learn all she could about financial matters, Rhonda’s experience in that accounting class cemented the direction her education would take from that point.
With a degree in accounting, Rhonda established a career working in Los Angeles commercial financial corporations for more than 16 years before she and her two teenage children and mother decided to move to Dallas.
“The experience and skills I acquired in commercial finance corporations have been invaluable,” says Rhonda. “Learning government practices and the technical terminology that is unique to government has been challenging, but very interesting.”
Her knowledge and determination have been critical to Leonard Blackwell, Trust and Accounting Manager, as he implements major changes District Clerk Gary Fitzsimmons began in that department immediately after assuming office in 2007.
“Every day in everything we do, we look for ways to be more efficient, but also to offer customers better services that are effective for us and convenient for them,” adds Rhonda. “In that respect, working in the public sector is the same as the private: manage all resources well and provide excellent service.”
As a mother of two teenagers, Rhonda has used traveling as an educational experience the entire family could share. Their last trip together was a cruise to a few Caribbean Islands, but she looks forward to a trip to Europe in the very near future.
