PASSPORTS DIVISION CONTINUES ITS EVOLUTION
IN ORDER TO SERVE DIVERSE COMMUNITY

The Dallas County Passport Office, under the direction of the Dallas County District Clerk, accepts and executes applications for thousands of US passports from Dallas County residents, collects appropriate fees, and transmits all documents and fees to the US State Department.
Following new regulations requiring passports for all air travel to North American countries, the number of applications processed leapt from approximately 16,500 in 2006 to more than 29,000 in 2008. Revenues almost doubled as well, from more than $490,000 in 2006 to more than $800,000 in 2008. With new requirements for land crossings to and from Mexico effective June 2009, the revenue is projected to increase to more than $920,000.
All of this rapidly expanding activity is managed by Supervisor Mike Lindley and his staff in the George Allen Courts Building, in the East Dallas Government Center and at the North Dallas Government Center. And to accommodate the dramatically shifting demographics seen in Dallas County over the past five years, Passports has hired Spanish-speaking deputies in each office to serve the community’s Hispanic population.
It’s not just ethnic diversity that Passports continues to address. Over the past decade, Passports has also provided special on-site services to deaf seniors planning a group trip to the Bahamas, First Baptist Church preparing for its choir’s European tour, and The Potter’s House readying its choir for its South African visit.
The only division in the District Clerk’s office not associated with courts, Passports provides a vital service to the citizens of Dallas County with the same excellent level of customer service found in all other District Clerk areas.
